Great South Bay Society 17th Annual Bay Cleanup

We continue our efforts to clean the islands of the Great South Bay. The participants of this event have done a tremendous job over the years to clean up tens of thousands of pounds of debris from the islands. The refuse has gotten much smaller due to the efforts of so many individuals along with this annual event. We strive to carry forth the effort!

2021’s Annual GSBS Cleanup event began a new effort to help those receiving cancer treatments at NY Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center. All proceeds go towards a specific fund, established in the memory of Ana Brice, to help patients with transportation and parking services. These services are necessary and are not always affordable for many patients nor are they covered by insurance.

Below is an excerpt from the bi-annual report from the hospital this past May.  

“As previously reported, transportation was found to be the greatest need for patients being treated at the infusion center. Often, a patient may not feel well enough to take public transportation or, to drive themselves to or from their appointment. A corporate LYFT account was created and continues to be utilized for this purpose. Parking vouchers are also being issued to help cover parking garage fees for patients who have their own method of transportation but still need financial assistance.
• Total amount dispersed (October 13, 2022 – April 10, 2023): $9,784
• Number of patients who have benefitted from the program: 30 (many of the recipients have benefitted numerous times)
• Total number of rides to the Medical Center: 122 Since the fund’s inception (late April 2022)”

We thank you for your continued support in the GSBS Annual Bay Cleanup and for supporting those that are affected by a terrible disease and in need of financial help.

AT THE EVENT

We will be doing our traditional cleanup. The event will start at 8am.

We will also be auctioning many local business’s gift cards and items. Additionally, a couple of liquor and wine baskets and a print by local artist Doug Zider.

There will be a 50/50 auction that participants need to be present for.

You can purchase a shirt (which comes with 2 raffle tickets), purchase raffle tickets and/or make a donation. Choose 1 or choose all 3.

Raffle tickets and shirts will be handed out at the event. Please let us know how many people are in the group that will be coming to the event so we can get a proper headcount.
