Great South Bay Society 15th Annual Bay Cleanup

Saturday, October 2nd, 2021

This year we are going to be changing things. Our goal has always been to remove debris from the bay and islands. That goal will not change, but this year we are going to be raising money for a specific purpose. We will be supporting cancer patients at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell.

Ana would tell me that if she lived, she wanted to volunteer at the hospital like so many other people do. Ana was truly a selfless person and she wanted to help others with no expectation of return.

There are specific things that took a lot of burden and stress from Ana and I while she was getting treatment. Many of these things we were able to take care of on our own, but others may not be as fortunate. Our goal is to raise money to help patients and their families to help them with things like paying for parking, car service, family meals at the hospital, and other things.

The Social Workers and volunteers at the hospital will be given annual amounts to spend as they see fit to help patients and families navigate their difficult time in life and treatment.

So, in the past we would raise money to pay for the event. This year we will be doing several things to raise money for these other purposes. We will still clean the bay, but we will do it in the memory of such a beautiful person.

AT THE EVENT

We will be doing our traditional cleanup. The event will start at 8am.

There will be a silent auction at the event! Here are the auction items we have so far…more to come:
